What is the need for Buddha in Katchatheevu?

 Intl. community had a great opportunity to hold the genocidal Sri Lankan state responsible for their continuous gross violation of human rights & Tamil genocide with @IMFNews @KGeorgieva loan. But once again this did not happen & LK state continues [land] genocide using armed forces.

Self-determination of Tamils from North & East should have been solidified before the funds were sanctioned. As we have seen many native Tamil lands have been grabbed by the Sinhala Buddhist Chauvanistic state. A new addition to the list is Katchatheevu/கச்சத்தீவு.

This uninhabited island is located between Neduntheevu & Rameswaram. It is part of TAMIL land & used by fishermen in BOTH homes of Tamil land.

Medieval period, this island was under Jaffna Kingdom. From the 17th century onwards island was under the Ramnad Kingdom. With colonialism, it became part of the Madras Presidency.  Now, it's under the administrative control of Sri Lanka.  Only structure found on the island is that of St Antony's shrine, built by a Tamil fisherman Srinivasa Padaiyachi in the early 20th century. Tamil pilgrims from both Tamil lands attend a 3 days festival here. 

Just as recently, LK archeology department stole Vediyarasan Fort as a Sinhala heritage site, and now they are forcing Sinhala Buddhist identity in Katchatheevu.  What is the need to impose a Budda statue there while the island is under bankruptcy?! 

State oppression against the indigenous people of Eezham by the LK state will never end. @IMFSpokesperson should have forced & solidified the rights of self-determination of Tamils before handing over the funds to Sri Lanka.

The video begins by indicating oppressed castes are doing jobs related to their caste. This is a HUGE misnomer. Most are educated, successful around the globe, & been leaders of Tamil Eezham.

There are many people in Jaffna (the area covered in this video) across all castes still struggling to make a living and doing daily wage jobs. This has nothing to do with caste but rather their socio-economic status. There exists NO society in the world where all are educated.

Which temple that's preventing people across all castes to enter?! These are RARE & those temples have been addressed [Such indifferences NEVER existed when LTTE ruled the Tamil land].

It goes on to indicate people cannot choose the land they want to do agriculture. What kind of statement is this?! People do farming based on the land they have, or whose willing to lease them out. Again, NOTHING to do with caste.

Then the video goes on to talk about caste-based differences in school. With the exception of a FEW primary schools in remote villages, ALL established schools across Jaffna DOES NOT discriminate based on caste.

They would NOT know a student's caste as, unlike India, there is no caste indicated by anyone in a student's application. Why not indicate the name of the school? If there is proper documentation, you should indicate school names.

How can you generalize that 'low caste' kids cannot afford school uniforms? This is an issue across everyone due to war and economic crises. This also undermines the success of those who came from all castes in Jaffna.

Arun Siddharth is a known drug leader and a state propaganda machine who thrives in creating differences for the Tamils. There are NO secluded areas based on caste but villages which are formed based on communities that are related. This exists ACROSS the globe.

Vasundra Devi talks about not having the privilege of carrying the god statue - you go to temples like Nallur and Vallipira Kovil and you will see such differences DO NOT exist. Ms. Kunarathinam Devi [@ 4:15] clearly indicates this existed in the past, NOT now.

Upul Kumara interviews Devananda: though he has been a sell-out, he for once speaks the truth & says no such differences exist. Upul near the end of his documentary goes on to claim people are afraid to talk about the oppression with others yet they came on the video to tell him about it?! One too many contradictions in this propaganda documentary & no wonder DStocks r promoting Sinhala state lies!

The caste violence that took place in Vattukottai and Kaliyadi Santhi is within the SAME caste!!!! Most of the issues we face in Jaffna are due to socioeconomic factors rather than the caste-based discrimination we see in India or in the genocidal Sinhala state.

Taking a story of a society in the 60s and spinning it as a current society to suit the narrative of Buddhist Sinhala Chauvinism and Dravidian propaganda of removing Tamil nationalism is a disgusting display of selling journalism ethics by @bbctamil.

Remembering Annai Poopathy

As we see our struggle for self-determination, we see extraordinary sacrifices from our people and Annai Poopathy is a household name to remember.

Poopathy Kanapathipillai, now known as Annai Poopathy, from Batticaloa, Eastern Tamil Eelam, started her fasting on March 19, 1988, to protest against the war crimes that were being committed by the Indian Peace Keeping Force [IPKF].

She led a normal life and was raising her children in the era when young Tamil men were targeted by the Sri Lankan state which led to indiscriminate killings, disappearances, and torture. She was fearing for the safety of her children, her 28 YO son was shot dead by Sri Lankan army. To protect her other children, she moved to different areas where there was less oppression. Unfortunately, in this new area, her other son was shot dead by the Special Task Force. Her 3rd son was also arrested in a random army round up and he was held Boosa army camp where he was severely tortured. All the pain and grief did not cripple her and she channeled them into the selfless act she has done for the Tamil nation.

Before her fast, she was an active member of the Mother's Front and fought the LK state against gross human rights violations. When the Indian army came as a 'Peace Keeping Force', she first hand witnessed the atrocities done by IPKF and wanted to do something about it. Women's Front decided to use India's non-violence as a weapon to ask for justice: 2 mothers, Mrs. Annammah David & Mrs. Nesammah Vadivel, commenced fast unto death. IPKF embarrassed by 2 women fighting against them, used their military power to break up the fast. Annai Poopathy not accepting this improvement in their political freedom, started her hunger strike on 19th March 1988 at Mahmangam Pillayar temple.

Her demands were: (1)An immediate unconditional ceasefire between the LTTE and the IPKF (2)Unconditional talks between the LTTE and the Indian government

As India allowed Thileepan Anna to die the year before, her demands were also not met and she died on April 19, 1988. The death of this mother is also a blood stain on the Indian government's hands.

Tamils across the globe remember Poopathu Amma and the Tamil diaspora in Norway has named their Culture Centre "Annai Poopathy Tamil Cultural Centre".

The non-violent form is taken by a mother to fight for her people, for her nation, and in return, her life was lost. Her death was a disgrace to India's identity as the 'land of Mahtma'.

Nainatheevu: another target of stolen Tamil heritage land

Known for its ancient historic temple: Nagapooshani Amman Temple. Buddhism in this land was associated with Tamil, not the Sinhala imposition we see today. Tamil heritage linked to this island can be found in 2 Sangam Tamil Buddhist epics: Manimekalai & Kundalakesi.

12th-century Tamil inscriptions indicate that the natives of this island are Tamils. Nainativu Tamil inscription: Parakramabahu I (1153–1186 A.D) issued an edict addressed to local Tamil officials in Jaffna, on how to deal w/ shipwrecked foreign traders.

Now as you enter the island, you will see the forced Sinahalization of Tamil land. Nagadeepa Purana Vihara stands as Sinhala imposition of Tamil land & erasing Tamil identity. This Vihara nor associated structures symbolize the history of Tamil Buddhism.

Where were our politicians then?! Sampathan was too busy justifying [from 0.50 seconds on the video below], rather than standing up for the rights of the people who voted for him.

Recently a street name was changed to honor a monk who has no ties to this land or this street. This name change was apparently implemented by the Rajapakse government now put in motion. How far will they erase Tamil identity?!

Many of the listed sites above have been removed from Tamils, demolished, & re-established as Sinhala/Buddhist sites.

Apart from this, according to the gazette published in 2013 under Section 16 of the Archeology Ordinance No. 823/73 (Chapter 188), more than 98 sites in the North East are claimed to have archaeological remains. They also list many highland areas in Batticaloa [Kudumbimalai, Thaanthaamalai, Kusaalanamalai,], Trincomalee [Raajavanthaan malai, Soodaikudaa Malai, Arisi Malai] as lands with Buddhist archaeological remnant sites.

They also cite 246 areas in Amparai as Buddhist sites. In the areas mentioned in Trincomalee, they have listed 74 places as Buddhist sites. Similarly, in Batticaloa, 28 Buddhist viharas and 55 Buddhisim-related sites are noted by the archeological department. If the archeological department finds evidence of Buddhism thriving in Tamil land, 1st, they don't need to demolish currently existing sites as they have also been there for generations. Secondly, there is no need to impose Sinhalization as these were Tamil sites.

We, Tamils (along with the international community), need to know our history, which includes Tamil Buddhism. This is the only way to prevent the Sinhalization of Tamil land and reclaim our history.

Story of another stole Tamil site: Kunchitapatha Hill Pathamurugan Temple

Located in the beautiful village of Ilankaithuraimukhathuvaram of Verugal region. It's always seen as a beautiful and historical site like ThiruKoneshwaram.

Ilankaithuraimukhathuvaram is a village that has been habituated by Tamils but post-2009, the name has changed to Lanka Patuna, the Murugan temple was demolished and a Buddhist Vihara erupted.

Murugan temple there was called "Periya Swamy" and ritually worshipped via ancient Tamil tradition since earliest times. Our failure to document our ancient sites led to losing this historical place.

Another stolen Tamil site: Malaiyadi Pillaiyaar Temple in Moothur

 About a year ago, randomly a Buddha statue appeared near Malaiyadi Pillaiyaar Temple in Moothur, Trincomalee.

"Random placement" now became a full-fledged Buddhist site. This clearly indicated #SriLankan genocidal state is funding this removal of Tamil identity and forcefully implementing Sinhala Buddhist identity. 

As the world was battling COVID-19 and the country going through an economic crisis, the Sinhala Buddhization of the Tamils area never stopped. While citizens dying of poverty, LK state has funds to build these statues?!

This temple had been a place of worship for people in this village and those who travel between Battocoala and Trincomalee. Now it became a Buddhist site.

We continued to see cases of such with police complaints being filed years ago with this random temple vandalization & Tamils waiting for justice to be served. Instead, they get state-funded Buddha statues. Once again, where are the Tamil MPs who represent these people?! How do they wait for years and do NOTHING?!

During the war, LK state demolished MANY temples [list: https://sangam.org/destruction-hindu-temples-sri-lanka/ ] and now they are taking over Tamil hereditary/cultural sites by imposing Buddhist identity. As Tamils recover from genocide, how far will this cultural genocide go?!

Sinhalization of Eezham continues: Vedukkunaari Malai Athi Sivan temple

 Olumadu - Vedukkunaari Malai Athi Sivan temple has been vandalized and this temple exists for MANY generations for Tamils.

This temple, located in a hill area, has been the target of Dept of archeology since 2018 [reported in Virakesari]. They probably decided it will be an apt place to erect a Buddha stupa, which will soon happen. https://virakesari.lk/article/38986

Post-war, when Tamils started revisiting this temple for worship, they were banned from going there. There was no larger protest & Tamil MPs did not pay attention to this.

A few days ago, the temple was found to be fully demolished and if you google this area, you will see the name of a Buddhist temple, Waddamana Parwartha Viharaya.

When will our people's representative fight for this type of genocide? Before we know it, we will lose all our historical sites!

Keeramalai Presidential Palace in Stolen Tamil Heritage Sites

Another land genocide of native land by the Sinhala genocidal state so quietly that by the time Tamil representative caught on, they didn't do much about it This palace located in Kankesanthurai, Jaffna is located on a 100-acre land comprising 20 rooms, two swimming pools, restrooms, and auditoriums. This began in 2012 with an estimated cost of Rs.2500 million.

To erect this palace, they demolished many Tamil heritage lands: 

•3 temples: Krishnar, Aadhi Sivan, Solai Vairavar [These shrines are over a century old]

•1 Monastery that was started by Saataiamma (& her mausoleum)

Army occupies 117 acres of land in Kankesanthurai, which includes a navy camp, the Walikamam North local government office, and part of the cement factory.  This palace, not only was built on Tamil historical but also on civilian lands.

Surrounding areas of this palace are also freshwater springs, a few other temples, and ancient caves. 

2 citizens whose lands were taken over for this palace filed a case:  

Raghavan, son of former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar*

Indranathan Ashirvadam, whose property rights are overseen by his son Rajan Hoole*

[* 2 names that work against the favor of well beings of Tamil are actually now impacted by the genocidal state]

KKS is one of the historic regions for Tamils, with its natural harbor and ancient sites: Keerimalai Springs, Kankesanthurai Fort, Keerimalai Naguleswaram Temple, and Maviddapuram Kandaswamy Temple. 

Close proximity to India & easier access to other countries, this fort would have flourished but was denied from using as they feared the Tamil region thriving. Since then, military control of this area displaced Tamils & Buddhaziation of land has been taking place*.

The systematic process of demolishing Tamil heritage sites and erecting Buddha statues and Sinhala chauvinism has been going on with the support of LK state: the army and Dept of Archeology play a huge role. 

With the change in government, this palace is being converted into a tourist state. Where are our elected representatives?! Are we okay with our heritage sites being demolished and transformed into tourist spots?! 

Now that KKS has been immersed as Sinhala land*, LK state finally allows communication between both Tamil lands. There will be a ferry service between Karaikal Port in Pondicherry, India, and Kankesanthurai (KKS) starting in April 2023.

LK state agreeing to allow this communication seems to be the result of current nationwide bankruptcy & India having the upper hand as a loan provider.

Will this improve Tamils' livelihood or is this part of the Indian state's ongoing plan to further exploit us...
