Tamil Refugees Fight For Their Placement in Tamil Nadu Might Be a Possibility Following Manipur Court Decision

Manipur court says 71 Myanmarese held are refugees, not illegal immigrants yet Tamil Nadu court can't do the same?!

According to India's regulations, foreign nationals who enter India w/out proper travel documents are treated as illegal immigrants. Using this regulation, Tamils from Eezham are treated as illegal immigrants, many even after MANY decades & of being born in Tamil Nadu, they continue to live in camps. BUT the court in Manipur cited the definition of ‘refugees’ from the 1951 Refugee Convention or the UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and declared these 71 individuals as refugees, granting them stay in India. Why can't this be applied to those who are still restricted in camps in Tamil Nadu?! Manipur court went on to indicate:

"While acknowledging that India is not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, the court pointed out that “India is very much a party to the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948) particularly Article 14 which declared that everyone has a right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution”."

We urge Tamil Nadu to apply the same regulations to relieve all those in camps & give them the freedom to assimilate into society & contribute.
