The recent portrayal of Eezha porattam as some sort of ethnic cleansing is quite disturbing. Here is some information on what led to the removal of Muslims from the Tamil area.
Muslim organizations, joined with the Sri Lankan army, constantly massacred many innocent Tamils as they wanted a religious identity, not a linguistic one.
They feared that if Tamils had their own land, they would be minorities. Brainwashed by the Lankan government, Muslim politicians stood with State violence and played a significant role in many.
Tamil tigers were then not a large organization that did not have the capacity to control such hateful acts and it was hard for them to weed out the enemies within the Tamil Muslim community.
Tigers expelled Muslims from the Tamil region due to a lack of capacity to keep them safe. Methagu Prabhakaran apologized for this eviction and agreed to work with them to rehabilitate. Though they were expelled from the North, there were MANY Islamic fighters who fought for our liberation.
Due to war, unfortunately, a record of Muslim fighters remains incomplete. Their contribution to the Tamil struggle for liberation is often overlooked. Here is a link with some names of Muslim Maaverars

Sri Lankan State terrorism and 'Special Task Force' from the East committed many horrendous crime against Tamils in the East and some documented list below:

“Keenie Meenie” by Phil Miller states that British mercenaries trained the Sri Lankan Special Task Force (STF) on the colonial divide-and-rule strategy to instigate a rift between Tamil & Muslim communities during the early phase of the civil war.
Tamils have suffered a lot and DO NOT let hate sway us and divide us. From our initial struggle to the 'Pothuvil to Polikandy' rally ['P2P'] this year, we saw our Tamil Muslim brothers/sisters standing with us. Don't let them divide us. We lost enough already.
