This week, Vallipura Kovil is popular on Youtube Tamil vloggers from Eezham, thanks to @ZeeTamil 🫢This temple is one of the most ancient worship sites of Tamil in Eezham. Manimekalai even mentions it & its standing history of Mayon (மாயோன்) worship in Eezham.
Vallipuram Gold Plate: 2nd-century gold plate carrying a Prakrit inscription was found under the foundation of this temple and stands as key evidence as what was stated in Manimekalai.
As Latin was used as a common language in Christianity, Prakrit was used as a common language in Buddhism. Prakrit does not imply this belongs to Sinhalese.
Inscriptions mention early Nagas, NagaTheevu, and Tamil Buddhism. The Buddha statue found here DOES NOT imply Sinhala settlement here but rather Tamils Buddhism which we no longer talk about. The Buddha statue found here was given to the King of Thailand by the then-British Governor Henry Blake in 1906. Another forgotten/removed history of Tamils we should claim back.
Vallipuram is located in Vadamarachchi Divisional Secretariat in Jaffna and stands as a village of ancient settlements with rich archeological remains.
As the temple remains the ruins of buildings of an early Buddhist civilization that flourished in the Northern part of Sri Lanka, this might be a targeted site by the genocidal state archeological department. We must be aware of Tamil Buddhism & put an end to this.
